Today Morgan was able to be home for a little while this morning... so we decided to go outside and enjoy the crisp fall weather! Andrew seemed to enjoy his walk! Man, are we smitten with this little guy!

I think that becoming a new mom means that you have absolutely no concept of time!! I'm absolutely amazed that about 80% of the time I have NO clue what day it is! (or what time it is either!)
BUT if I had to choose something to control and take over my time, I think that Andrew is the best option!

I feel alive! (well, sometimes!)
Well, almost a week after giving birth... I think that I feel like a human again!!
Here's the low down on what's happened in the last week...
Last Monday we got a big surprise after I went to the OB. Without my knowledge my water had broken, well, began to leak.... so they decided to get me in the hospital asap, get me on some antibiotics and induce labor (in fear of the baby getting an infection). I had a little freak out moment driving home from the appointment, thankfully the drive is only about 3 minutes. I just kept hearing what the doctor said, "Well Emily, you're going to have this baby today." Oh my! Well, I got home, woke up Morgan went on into the hospital. I started pitocin at about 10:30 in the morning. I labored until about 4pm without an epidural, when I got the epidural I was dilated to a 6. Whoo Hoo! I was pretty proud of myself! But man, epidurals are nice! My mom was able to get to the hospital at about 8:30 pm (she had raced up here from Atlanta). I started to push at about 10:30 pm and he was born at 11:56 pm. The sweet nurse kept telling me that he was going to be born on the 13th, which gave me a huge burst of energy at about 11:45, I knew I could do it! I did! Morgan and my mom were in the room, they said that it was pretty amazing to see the little guy be born.
That night got pretty crazy. About 15 minutes Andrew was born my blood pressure went down to 60/20. They were trying to find if I was bleeding anywhere, they couldn't find anything. They put me on a ton of fluids to get my blood pressure back up. After a while it got to a better level. (They said that I looked pretty pale!) After that fiasco, the nurse was going to take out the catheter that was feeding the epidural in.... and that was a whole other crazy story disgusting story short, the anesthesiologist was rushed in and I'm still alive whoo hoo!
Tuesday morning started out pretty well, but the day digressed. I started to develop a really bad headache and we came to find out that I was part of the LUCKY 1 % of people who have epidurals who get spinal headaches! Basically I was leaking spinal fluid so my brain wasn't "floating" the way it should. So, I was hooked up to some major pain killers and had to lie flat on my back for the day. Thankfully, Andrew is SUCH a sweet baby that he didn't mind!
Wednesday morning I was given a blood patch (they insert a ton of blood into the epidural spot to build pressure to stop the fluid from leaking... but sometimes it doesn't work). Lets just say that I wish that on no one!! It increased the headache 10 fold, I was VERY discouraged. The doctor reassured me that the procedure had worked, so I waited. The headache got better, but all the pain in the rest of my body was awful. My sweet husband and a great friend gave me a blessing and I started to feel better after that. Oh, how I am grateful for the Priesthood!
I felt well enough by Wednesday night to get out of bed and move around and I was gratefully able to be discharged from the hospital on Thursday.
The headache persisted up until last night. I was so happy to wake up this morning feeling like a real person!! Hooray!
So there's the story on how I survived child birth. The birthing process was just fine, it was the postpartum that was so difficult! But I am grateful that the problems happened to me, and not to Little Andrew.
We're all doing alright now, still getting a handle on the whole nursing thing and the lack of sleep, but life a great and couldn't honestly get any better than what it is right now. Yeay for little babies. They are truly a gift from our Heavenly Father.

BABY ANDREW!!!
Mr. Andrew is here! He was born on Oct. 13th at 11:56 pm. I was put onto potocin at 10am that morning, labored until I was about 6 cm, then had the LOVELY epidural put in. I pushed for only about 1 hr. 45 min. I'm so proud that I was able to have him vaginally! Morgan and my mom were there supporting me the whole way. The doctor and nurses were great. I'm so happy!!
Oh, He was 8 pounds, 8 ounces.... 20 1/4 inches long. As grandma's calling him, he's our little peanut!

Well, I just went to the doctor this morning... and apparently my water has broken already!

Ghostly Shepard's Pie
I made this recipe last year and shared it with a few of you. It's so yummy and I'm excited to have it again, so I thought that I would share it with all of you!!!
1 lb ground beef
1/2 C. chopped onion
1 bag (12 oz) frozen mixed vegetables
2 C. diced tomatoes with Italian herbs, undrained (from 28-oz can)
1 jar (12 oz) beef gravy
1 3/4 C. water
2 Tbsp. butter/margarine
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 C. milk
2 1/4 C. Potato Buds mashed potatoes (dry) or any other dried potatoes
1/4 C. grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, slightly beaten
1. Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 12-inch skillet with cooking spray. Add beef and onion; cook over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain.
2. Set 12 peas (from frozen vegetables) aside for garnish. Add remaining frozen vegetables, tomatoes and gravy to beef mixture. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are crisp-tender.
3. Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, heat water, butter and garlic powder to boiling. Remove from heat; add milk. Stir in dry potatoes and cheese. Add egg; blend well.
4. Spoon beef mixture into ungreased 2 - 2 1/2 quart baking dish. With large spoon, make 6 mounds of potato mixture on top of beef mixture to resemble ghosts. Place 2 reserved peas on each mound to resemble eyes.
5. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until potatoes are set and mixture is thoroughly heated.
Enjoy with your little ghosts & goblins!!

Andrew Update
A quick update.... no baby yet! I went to the doctor today.... They said that he's moved down more and his head is exactly where it needs to be. I was 2 cm dilated, and 50% effaced. The doctor made it sound like the labor wouldn't be all that long when he decides to come due to his positioning (or she was being really nice!). I also made mention that I am going to stop working this Friday... and if that was too early I would work a little longer... she said that Friday would probably be a good day to stop... to give me some R&R before baby comes, so hopefully this baby won't wait too much longer after that!!

It's OCTOBER!!!
Hooray! The month that I have been waiting for is here!!!
Morgan and I get to meet Mr. Andrew... and have our lives changed forever - and we are SO excited!!
All my recent trips to the doctor have been good. Crazy though, this practice doesn't check internally to see any advancements in labor on women's first babies. DARN! I want to know if I'm progressing - which I swear that I am. I haven't had any contractions (that I think) BUT Andrew has been pushing down - he pushes down for about 30-40 minutes each evening -which causes some not so comfortable pressure. I can just picture him pushing down with his head thinking "let me out! let me out!" So, we'll wait and see. He's positioned the way he needs to be and he's dropped some. He had the hiccups today and I was surprised how low they were, so I guess he is headed south! So here's to the waiting game!
We attended an Expectant Parents class last weekend. It was really informational. I'm really glad that we went. Morgan and I are just so excited!!
