White Water Rafting!

This past weekend Morgan and I went camping up in North Carolina. We had a blast. It was nice to have some time in nature. We were there along with some of my family. (My dad, granddad, cousins, brother, and his gf) Here are some highlights:

-Dinner cooked over a campfire. Followed by smores.

-Sleeping next to a stream. I love the sound of running water - so serene!

-The beautiful views of Western North Carolina. I love the Appalachian Mountains!

On Saturday morning we all got ready to go rafting. Our raft had Dan (my brother), Kim (his gf), Morgan and I in it. We had a lot of fun. Although I think that our raft went in about 50 spins (the boys doing).

Thankfully the spinning stopped after I got bumped out. Note: I am not a water person. I don't like fish, snakes, or anything that lives in water. It freaks me out. So, add some 50 degree water, and some rapids - not that great! I was so shocked from falling off - I actually remember not too much about the first few moments (thankfully). From what I've been told, I managed it pretty well - I don't think I did - but I was impressed that I was able to think about how to float, hold on to my oar, etc. The rest of the crew in the raft tried really hard to get me - but with no luck and watching me get pulled down the river, hitting my bum on every rock possible... Morgan jumped in and saved me.

He said he's never seen me so scared in my life. Once Morgan made his way to me, I felt so much more safe. We finally made it over to the bank and walked our way through poison ivy to the raft that Dan and Kim amazingly were able to stop and pull to the side. We washed our legs off in the river and got back on our trek. I'm glad I finished the trip, but I'm not sure you'll be seeing me on any rafting trips any time soon. (I think my heavily bruised bum thinks that too)

Other than that ordeal - we had a great time. It was so nice to spend time with my granddad. Hopefully we'll be able to make the camping portion a tradition - I'll just pass on the rafting part.

A boy and his balloon...

We went out to dinner the other night, and the hostess gave Andrew a balloon (his 1st one). I think it may have been the highlight of his week.

Family time in Wilton, Maine

A little over a week ago Morgan's grandpa passed away. He was a wonderful man, one whom I'm grateful Andrew is a descendant of! He was a loving, talented man who was a great dad and grandpa. Although his passing is sad, we had a nice time spending time with family and reliving stories of times past. I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the McInnis side of the family better. We got to spend a lot of time with a lot of family that do not live near. Here are a few pictures from our time in Wilton.

Andrew with Aunt Maureen... his hat has the McInnis Family Tartan on it!

Having fun with Aunt Meg

This pic has 7 of the 9 McInnis children in it! (this is also at the house that they all grew up in) Whoa!

As you can see, Andrew loved all the attention. Other highlights included a great game of Pictionary... one by the grandkids. As well as a visit to Dutch Treat... an ice cream stand that was always looked forward to while in Wilton. I had my birthday while there- they were so nice to make me a cake (with a Woopie Pie on it - YUM) considering the circumstances.

Oh, I love family.

Rain Rain Go Away...

And Please! Don't come back!

It has honestly rained for the past week or more. The sun will come and go, but it's mostly been gone. So, how have we spent our time?

The Wii.

We've borrowed Evan's (Morgan's bro) Wii. Needless to say... we're pretty awesome at it. (That's true about Morgan, but not so much about me...) Andrew even gets into it...

Happy 4th!

I hope that everyone enjoyed the nice warm sun and fireworks today.... because we didn't! All last week was rainy, but the weather man kept promising a beautiful 4th, well, he was wrong. It rained almost all day. As I was getting dressed today in my pants, long sleeved shirt, and light jacket - I was just laughing. This is the first 4th I wasn't in 90+ degree temps. Although with all the rain, we made the most of it. We had a picnic on the screened in porch while it thunderstormed outside. We had a great time playing with Andrew and enjoying time with Mimi and Papa.
Hope all of you enjoyed the 4th and took some time to reflect on how wonderful it is that we live in a free country!
